That 2020 Feeling

If I'm being honest

Things seem a bit hopeless

Been locked up in quarantine

Due to coronavirus

Riots break out in the once vacant streets

Over discriminatory acts

That seek to divide us

But what if we could learn to

Lay our weapons down

Lay our weapons down

Would this bring healing to our cities

And hope into our towns?

Seems like an issue of the heart

Born of tribalistic mentality

Where it's us versus them

But aren't we all just human?

I thought we could do better

But day in and day out

Tearful voices are asking

Questions left unanswered

And it makes me wonder

Are there any answers?

Will things finally get better?

Will God set us free?

If we claim to know Christ

Then we are free indeed,

So this healing begins

When we're God's hands and feet.

The Spirit of God is the breath of Life

Uplifting the hopeless

And breaking down pride

And leading us gently

Out of our graves--

Onto the streets where broken the hearts wander

Meeting questions with prayers

For humility, mercy, and justice.

There’s no time like the present

to start living on mission

to seek reconciliation—

so let us begin because

healing starts here with

our thoughts, words, and actions.

Keep breaking the silence

Loose the chains of oppression

Set free the captives

and with every step may we be the Peacemakers.
