#MotherhoodMatters: Meet My Mom
In this week leading up to Mother’s Day, I’d like to dedicate the next few days to celebrating the mothers in my life, starting with my own mother. Meet my mom, Nancy. I’m like my mom in many ways, and everyone says that we look just like one another. If that really is the case, I’d say that I’m pretty lucky because I think my mom is pretty great.
I’ve always been inspired by my mother’s ability to create a sense of home in any space. Whenever we had guests growing up, my mother made sure that they had all their needs met. She mothered many of our friends who were hurting or needed a little extra care.
Even when she isn’t serving her family, my mother ensures that her home is a place of rest. She has this knack for interior design that goes beyond simply choosing nice decorations. When I moved into an apartment near my parents over the summer, she came over and helped make the unfamiliar space feel like home, and long after I moved in the fall, she has still been gifting me with things to make my new space extra cozy.
I love that my mom is always thinking of others and that she humbly serves whenever she can. One day, I hope to be as hospitable as her. My mother has taught me the value of slowing down, creating beautiful spaces, and humbling ourselves in the service of others. Thank you, mom. I am forever grateful for the impact you’ve had on me.
